A lakeside winter holiday in Fuschl am See – a Waldhof's Winter
Wonderland.
You're probably asking yourself what Lake Fuschl has to offer in winter once
the swimming season is over. Outside perhaps, but not inside! The Waldhof Water
World with its whirl pool, indoor pool and sports pool give guests the chance to
swim to their heart's content and the Sauna World is the ideal place to warm up
after a long winter walk. And then of course there is always skiing,
snow-biking, tobogganing, ice skating, snow-tubing, cross-country skiing,
snow-shoe walks … The best thing about Lake Fuschl is that it's worth visiting
in both summer and winter. Fun and action can be had all year round and wellness
and relaxation is the focal point of any holiday at the wellness hotel
Waldhof.
A winter holiday in the Salzkammergut Lake District is truly balm for the
soul. However, we our selves aren't even sure if we prefer the summer or the
winter. Because both seasons at Ebner's Waldhof are equally appealing, it's
probably best to try out both!
Winter walking in Salzburg County.
Many of the cleared winter walks start right outside the hotel's front door.
This is the ideal way to get to know Fuschl am See and the surrounding
countryside. The altitude means that the village is pleasantly free of fog
during the winter months and that winter walks are normally accompanied by
sunshine. One of the most popular walks in winter is the lakeside path and the
short walk up to the Waldhof Alm mountain restaurant where you are rewarded with
fantastic views of the mountains both near and far. Those of you looking for
something truly romantic will enjoy the horse-drawn sleigh rides into the
countryside where only the breathing of the horses, the crunching of snow and
tinkling of sleigh bells can be heard.
Curling and ice yachting on Lake Fuschl.
When Lake Fuschl freezes over in winter, the smooth, glassy surface is ideal
for a range of winter activities; Austrian curling, ice skating and ice
yachting. At the Waldhof Alm there's also a small pond which, should its big
brother not quite have frozen, can also be used for a game of curling. Our
wellness representative Katharina and the Ebner family are happy to show you how
it's done and help you with the rules.
Ski resorts in the Salzkammergut Lake District.
The Salzkammergut region is not just the right destination for summer
swimmers and sunbathers, hikers and wellness seekers, but also for skiing
enthusiasts. The Waldhof is in an exceptional location giving you the chance to
explore various different local ski resorts all within easy driving distance:
like the skiing areas of Gaissau Hintersee, Postalm or Zwölferhorn. The Waldhof
also offers its guests a free bus shuttle to the family ski resort Gaissau
Hintersee and the cross-country skiing centre in Faistenau.
Postalm ski area (1400-1800 m)
Postalm Arena > The second largest high altitude plateau in
the Alps is just a 40-minute drive from Fuschl am See and in winter a great
family ski resort. The pistes range from easy to intermediate and are served by
5 T-bar lifts. The Postalm is also a great cross-country skiing area for more
experienced skiers with more than 20 km of trails. The altitude of the plateau
means that it is snow sure from December to the end of April and can be highly
recommended for skiers, walkers and Nordic skiers. Every Friday Herbert Ebner
accompanies his guests on a trip to the Postalm - he knows where the best
restaurants, runs and views are!
Ski Region Hintersee-Gaissau
Ski Hintersee-Gaissau > This is a true family skiing
paradise just 15 minutes drive from Fuschl. The area offers 40 km of
well-prepared pistes for beginners and intermediates, 3 chairlifts and 5 T-bar
lifts. It is the most extensive ski resort in the Lake Fuschl Holiday Region.
Hintersee-Gaissau is blessed with an excellent snow record and is usually open
from December to the end of March. In the winter a daily shuttle bus brings
Waldhof guests to the main chair lift station in Hintersee and naturally picks
them up again in the afternoon. Special ski pass rates are available for Waldhof
guests. For more information simply ask at the reception.
Ski area Zwölferhorn - St. Gilgen >
Ski region Dachstein West >
Ski courses & ski hire
The local ski school has a great success record with both children and
adults. Please ask at the hotel reception for price details. We can also
recommend the private lessons offered by the school which can be booked at the
hotel reception. If you're not planning on bringing your ski equipment with you,
don't worry! There is a ski hire shop at the foot of the chair lift station
offering a wide range of excellent equipment at competitive prices.
