Berchtesgaden National Park
The national park (8,600 ha) is located in the municipalities of Schönau and
Ramsau in the midst of the Berchtesgadener Alps. At 2,713 m above sea level, the
Watzmann is the highest peak while the lowest is the Königssee at 603 m above
sea level. The park is bordered by the Salzburger Land to the south and east and
by Berchtesgaden Alpine Park to the north. Diverse habitats have developed in
this high mountain landscape and nearly all vegetation zones with their typical
plant and animal species are represented here.
In addition to nature conservation, the Berchtesgaden Biosphere Reserve
(UNESCO “Men and Biosphere”) is dedicated to the preservation and development of
cultivated landscapes and the exploration of nature.
Hiking, presentations and technical excursions for interested visitors are
